Templates is the shared library of message content for both email and SMS. Write a message once, personalize it with merge fields, vary it with spin syntax, and reuse it across batches.

How it works

One library, both channels

Email and SMS templates live side by side, so the content behind every send is managed in one place.

Merge fields

Merge fields pull contact data into the message at send time, so each recipient gets a copy addressed to them rather than a generic blast.

Spin syntax

Spin syntax defines interchangeable variants of words or phrases inside a template. Each generated message picks among the variants, so the copies a batch produces are not identical.

The signature token

In email templates, the {{signature}} token inserts the sending account's structured signature. See email signatures for how signatures are built and toggled.

Preview

Preview a template before using it, so you can check how merge fields and variants render rather than discovering problems in a live batch.

Performance

Each template carries performance stats, so you can compare how different messages do and retire the ones that underperform.

When to use it

Build a template before any batch — the create templates guide covers the workflow. When results diverge, lean on the performance stats: keep what earns replies, rewrite what doesn't.

Limitations

  • The {{signature}} token renders the structured signature only — no images, logos, or free-form HTML come through it.
  • Merge fields are only as good as the data behind them. Keep the CRM fields you reference complete and current.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the same template produce different messages?

Spin syntax. If a template defines variants, each generated message picks among them so copies vary from send to send.

Can I see a template before sending with it?

Yes. Templates support preview so you can check the rendered result, and each template shows performance stats from past use.
