Tags mark what you know about a contact — status, source, interest. Combined with lists, they let you filter your contacts into precise audiences for outreach.

Before you start

  • Contacts in your workspace, ideally organized into lists.
  • A rough tagging plan — a handful of consistent names beats dozens of one-off tags.

Steps

  1. Open Contacts. Go to Contacts in the Landing Zone app.
  2. Tag a single contact. Open the record and add the tags that apply; remove any that no longer do.
  3. Tag in bulk. Select multiple contacts and add or remove tags across the whole selection in one action.
  4. Standardize your conventions. Keep tags short, predictable, and reused — for example a status set ("hot", "follow-up"), a source set ("july-import"), and an interest set. Reuse an existing tag before inventing a near-duplicate.
  5. Filter by tags and lists. Combine tag and list filters to carve out the exact audience you want.
  6. Use the segment for outreach. Feed the filtered audience into an email batch or an SMS batch.
  7. Prune regularly. Bulk-remove stale tags so old labels don't pollute future segments.

Limitations

  • Tags don't change send eligibility. Consent, suppression, quiet hours, and cooldowns still apply at send time regardless of how a contact is tagged.
  • Segments are only as good as your tagging discipline — near-duplicate tags ("hot" vs "Hot Lead") fragment your audiences.

Frequently asked questions

Tags or lists — what's the difference?

Lists group an audience, usually by where the contacts came from. Tags mark attributes that cut across lists. Filtering combines both.

Can I remove a tag from many contacts at once?

Yes. Select the contacts and remove the tag in bulk, the same way you add one.
